Bashan (mbd)

Bashan, ba'-shan (Heb.)–light, sandy soil; smooth, fertile soil; fruitful.

A district east of Jordan, the land of Og, who was the Amoritish king (Deut. 3:1-11). It was noted for its fruitfulness and its herds (Deut. 32:14).

Meta. Life and substance, inexhaustible and limitless (smooth, fertile soil, fruitful) when the animal forces (herds) are properly directed and handled by the understanding (half tribe of Manasseh to whom the land of Bashan was assigned).
