Meta. The symbology of the burning of incense (Luke 1:9) is transmutation. The finer essences of the body are transmuted to what may be termed the fourth or radiant dimension, and a firm foundation laid for an organism of permanent character. Paul calls it the “celestial” body. This process takes place whenever the I AM makes union in the body with the Lord, or higher Self.

Burning “incense upon the altar of incense” (II Chron. 26:16) is the most delicate, secret process that goes on in the body. It is a process of transmutation: the animal nature goes through a refinement and is changed; the corruptible puts on incorruption. This is typified by the offerings to the Lord, made by the Israelites through the priests. The priests only can take part in this, because it requires spiritual understanding.
