Zemarite, zem'–a–rlte (fr. Heb.)–that which exceeds the limits of moral authority; hunger for dominion; thirst for power; despot; tyrant; rebel.

A tribe of people who were descended from Canaan, son of Ham (Gen. 10:18).

Meta. Rebellious, tyrannical, despotic thoughts and desires belonging to the ”mind of the flesh” phase of consciousness in unredeemed man; the outer man seeking the dominion that belongs alone to the inner, or spiritual, man. (See HAM and CANAAN.)
